Heal and Forgive Yourself

Updated: Jul 10, 2020

It hurts before it heals.

Remember that.

It will hurt before it heals, but it’ll heal.

Deception can gravely mark your heart.

Pain and guilt is overwhelming and can feel insurmountable.

Here’s my advice on healing.

Acknowledging

It's sometimes easier to push your thoughts and feelings away when they hurt. Thinking that ignoring the pain will make it go away, I've been there. The truth, that we all deep down know, is that it won't simply go away if we don't deal with it. There is something to deal with because you’re ignoring. You can't ignore something that doesn't exist. It is therefore important to acknowledge the situation and our feelings in regards to it. Journaling is great way to figure out how exactly how you’re feeling.

Forgiveness and acceptance

Forgiveness is crucial to your healing process. After acknowledging, you have to forgive yourself, the situation and possibly others. To forgive you need to accept that the situation can't be changed and that the only thing that can be done is move on and be better. When it comes to others, remember that you can’t control everything. You can only forgive and hope that they find a way to be better. The rest is out of your control. Acceptance and forgiveness go both ways. You need to accept to forgive and you need to forgive to accept.

No amount of sadness, anger or guilt can change the past. Nothing can.

The past is the past, I can only be better from here on now. Tell yourself that until you believe it.

Eventually, before you realize it you will have healed.
